Belfast International Airport’s terminal extension opens for business – Airport World


Belfast International Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network, has inaugurated its new terminal extension as part of phase one of its £100 million five-year investment programme.

The upgrade includes a state of the art security hall using next generation security equipment and an immersive new duty free offering as well as enhancements to the Arrivals experience including a new external forecourt area.

Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of Concessions at VINCI and president of VINCI Airports, said: “This first delivery of VINCI Airports’ investment programme to modernise Belfast International airport improves the passenger experience with state-of-the-art security features and high-quality retail offer.

“As the airport plays a pivotal role for aviation, tourism and local economy, VINCI Airports is committed to boosting connectivity and sustainable growth for Northern Ireland.”

The first £25 million investment phase, which is now complete, features the transformative 1,600sqm duty free store which combines duty free, F&B and travel essentials all under one roof.

The airport also notes that as a result of the upgrade, for the first time, “passengers will have access to iconic global brands as well as beloved local ones”.

The new security hall has been purpose built for growth to ensure the area can adapt with passenger demand and features state of the art next generation security equipment meaning passengers no longer have to move liquids or electronics from hand luggage making for amore seamless transition through the security process – the wide open space provides passengers with a more relaxed experience.

Notebaert was joined at the official opening of the new facilities by Northern Ireland’s First Minister and deputy First Minister, Michelle O’Neill and Emma Little-Pengelly and Pierre Anjolras, CEO of VINCI.
