Oldtimer Hahnweide 2025: A Resounding Success For Aviation Enthusiasts

The highly anticipated Oldtimer Hahnweide (OTT) aviation event returned in 2025, drawing crowds and aircraft enthusiasts from September 12th to 14th. After a hiatus since 2019, the event, held at a grass airstrip near Stuttgart, Germany, successfully showcased a remarkable collection of vintage and warbird aircraft, celebrating a century of aviation history. Despite some challenges, the event was widely considered a success, with organizers expressing gratitude for the enthusiastic participation and support.

The 2025 edition of OTT marked the 20th iteration of this significant gathering, which is renowned for bringing together a diverse array of airworthy warbirds and classic aircraft, many of which are rarely seen in public. The organizers acknowledged that previous years’ cancellations were due to economic challenges and global crises, but expressed renewed optimism and determination to bring the event back to life. A new organizing team took the helm, ensuring that the spirit and core attractions of the show remained consistent with its esteemed legacy.

This year’s event featured an impressive lineup of aircraft, including numerous World War II fighter aircraft like the Bf 109, Spitfire, Mustang, and Fw 190. Vintage trainers such as the North American T-6, Stearman, and Vultee BT-13 were also present, alongside a significant contingent of 14 Boeing Stearmans. Unique aircraft like the Junkers F 13, Junkers A50 Junior, and the only flying Stinson L-5G in Europe added to the allure, promising something for every aviation aficionado.

While the event was celebrated for its spectacular displays and the sheer volume of historical aircraft, it was not without its challenges. Organizers noted that changeable weather conditions and an enormous influx of visitors led to some difficult arrival situations, particularly with ground conditions becoming muddy. They extended apologies for any inconveniences caused but also highlighted the successful efforts to free vehicles that became stuck in the soft ground, ensuring attendees could depart safely.

Despite the weather-related issues, the overwhelming sentiment from attendees and organizers was one of gratitude and satisfaction. The event successfully paid homage to aviation’s past, united aviation enthusiasts, and transformed the skies above Hahnweide into a vibrant showcase of historical aviation. Plans are already underway for future events, with organizers eager to build upon the success of OTT 2025 and continue its tradition as a premier destination for vintage aircraft enthusiasts.
