This week sees attention move to Asia-Pacific and Latin America in the fourth-quarter earnings season.
Notably, Air New Zealand and Qantas Group will both announce their half-year earnings in the coming days, the latter after nearing the completion of its withdrawal from operating airlines outside its core market by saying earlier this month that it would end its interest in Jetstar Japan.
Air New Zealand will be hoping to report some relief from the “operational complexities” that weighed on its last full year of operations – chief among them the long-drawn engine reliability issues on its narrowbody and widebody fleet.
Also reporting its earnings in the coming days is Singapore Airlines Group. Its last earnings announcement included a negative impact from the business’s stake in Air India.
Other earnings this week include Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris, which is in the process of merging with compatriot VivaAerobus.
The tie-up – announced at the end of 2025 – would see the two carriers form an airline group under a holding company structure, which the parties describe as a “merger of equals”. They intend to maintain their separate brands.
They will be speaking as major operators in the USA, Canada and Mexico have cancelled flights to the popular Mexican tourist spot of Puerto Vallarta amid escalating violence after the killing of a drug cartel leader.
Also reporting this week is British Airways and Iberia owner IAG. Eyes will be on its assessment of the transatlantic market, after Air France-KLM last week said that despite some softness in the economy cabin, such services were performing strongly amid buoyant demand for seats in premium cabins.
