This week sees a number of carriers report their October-December earnings, including many at the centre of key talking points in the global industry.
In the USA, Frontier Airlines’ earnings presentation will be led by a new chief executive, former airline president James Dempsey, following Barry Biffle’s departure at the end of 2025. Questions still remain about Frontiers’ earnings performance as it seeks to prove its business model can generate strong returns in the challenging US low-cost market.
Air Canada is also due to report this week, potentially providing more commentary on demand between its home country and the USA, which has been negatively affected by the policies and rhetoric of the current US government. The airline was also hit hard by a labour dispute in the third quarter of last year.
In Europe, meanwhile, Finnair’s earnings will be another indicator of, among other things, how transatlantic demand is holding up amid the impact of the US government’s actions. Icelandair last week cited “relatively weak” demand on such services, which are crucial to Europe’s big airline groups in particular (they are reporting later in the month and in early March).
Finnair already flagged weaker-than-expected transatlantic demand in its third-quarter earnings. Like Icelandair, however, some of its challenges have been internal, including around labour relations.
Among the other airlines set to report this week are Norwegian in Europe, which has been riding high in recent quarters, and Panama’s Copa Airlines, which has been enjoying strong passenger demand from the Latin American region.
