Philippine Airlines To Join Oneworld Alliance As 16th Member

**MANILA, Philippines** – Philippine Airlines (PAL) has officially received an invitation to join the prestigious oneworld Alliance, a significant move that will see the flag carrier become the 16th member airline of the global network. The announcement was made at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) annual general meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This landmark decision marks a new chapter for PAL, strengthening its global presence and offering enhanced travel benefits to its passengers.

The integration into oneworld is expected to be a transformative moment for Philippine Airlines, as stated by PAL Holdings, Inc. president Lucio C. Tan III. He emphasized that this move will bring the Philippines and the wider Southeast Asian region closer to the world, providing greater choice, consistent journeys, and a world-class travel experience that embodies Filipino hospitality. The alliance aims to leverage PAL's extensive domestic and regional network, thereby strengthening oneworld's footprint in Southeast Asia and opening up new vital links to numerous Philippine destinations.

For frequent flyers, the benefits of PAL's membership in the oneworld Alliance are substantial. Mabuhay Miles members will soon be able to earn and redeem miles across all oneworld member airlines. Furthermore, top-tier PAL customers will gain access to oneworld priority privileges and over 700 premium airport lounges worldwide, significantly enhancing their travel experience. This reciprocal arrangement means that elite members of other oneworld airlines will also enjoy familiar perks when flying with PAL.

Philippine Airlines' entry into the oneworld Alliance is strategically important for both the airline and the alliance itself. It will bolster PAL's long-term strategic growth and enhance connectivity across key markets in the Asia Pacific region. For oneworld, PAL's membership strengthens its presence in Southeast Asia, making Manila a more significant gateway within the alliance's Asian network. This move also adds 31 unique destinations, many of which are popular leisure spots, to the oneworld network, routes not previously served by any alliance member.

While the invitation has been extended and accepted, the full integration and the activation of all benefits are expected to take between 12 to 18 months. The formal membership is anticipated to be completed sometime in 2027. This development positions Philippine Airlines alongside other world-class airlines in the oneworld alliance, including American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Japan Airlines, among others, further solidifying its standing in the global aviation landscape.
