Rhode Island, USA – REGENT, a pioneering developer of electric wing-in-ground-effect (WIG) vehicles, is making significant strides with its Viceroy Seaglider, with the prototype expanding its flight envelope and progressing towards full flight capabilities later this year. This development marks a crucial step in realizing the potential of WIG technology for high-speed, low-emission maritime transport. The company has also advanced its autonomous Squire Seaglider drone, which recently completed its first WIG flight, validating its autonomy systems for future defense and commercial applications.
The company has officially completed the construction of the world's first Seaglider Manufacturing Facility in Quonset Business Park, Rhode Island. This expansive 255,000-square-foot site is purpose-built for the assembly of Seaglider platforms, incorporating dedicated areas for structural assembly, wing and hydrofoil integration, battery and systems installation, and water-based testing. Direct waterfront access facilitates seamless sea trials, underscoring the facility's strategic importance for REGENT's production and testing operations. The site has been formally recognized by local officials, who renamed it "1 Seaglider Way," honoring Quonset's history in defense manufacturing and maritime industries as REGENT enters its next phase of growth.
REGENT's progress extends beyond its manufacturing capabilities. The Viceroy prototype has successfully moved through its float campaign and foiling stages, and is now poised for full flight testing. This upcoming flight is anticipated to be the largest all-electric WIG flight ever achieved. The company is also advancing its defense division, REGENT Defense, which is developing a comprehensive family of Seaglider systems for maritime national security. These include a defense-oriented version of the Viceroy, a fully autonomous Viceroy variant, and hybrid-propulsion models capable of extended range missions.
Strategic partnerships are a key element of REGENT's expansion strategy. In the Middle East, ADNOC Logistics and Services has selected the Viceroy Seaglider for a proof-of-concept trial to transport personnel to offshore energy infrastructure. Furthermore, REGENT has expanded its cargo mission collaborations, signing a Memorandum of Understanding with DHL Express to explore the deployment of all-electric Seaglider vessels for short-haul, coastal, and island logistics. These collaborations highlight the diverse commercial potential of REGENT's technology across various sectors, from energy to express logistics.
With customer deliveries projected to begin in 2027, REGENT is solidifying its position in the emerging WIG market. The company's commitment to innovation, manufacturing excellence, and strategic alliances is paving the way for what is expected to be a transformative decade for maritime mobility. The Viceroy and its related platforms represent a significant leap forward in achieving high-speed, sustainable, and versatile waterborne transportation solutions.
